Travelling for birds

I enjoy travelling and have visited a few countries for birding both via work and just for leisure. This section is a mixture of trip reports and galleries from some of these meetings with new birds, habitats and cultures.

Central Spain

Birding the plains of Extremadura, the hills of Monfragüe, Gredos mountains and Segovia in early april 2022 produced close to 150 species.

Arctic Norway
Lithuania and Poland

Reports from the northern edge of Europe, where several sought after species thrive. From the taiga and tundra in Arctic Norway.

Summaries from Steller's Eider survey in Lithuania March 1998, a pure birding trip in both countries in May 2004 and a BirdLife-partner visit in Poland in April 2024.

Morocco and Western Sahara

One of my favorite birding destinations. Easy country to travel in, wide variety of habitats and lots of birds and many mouthwatering species.

Gambia
Malawi

My only visit to this epic birding destination was in January 2013. We were mostly birding along the coast in the Western Region and Bamjul, but inculded a trip to the mangroves of Tendaba. About 225 species were recorded in ten days.

BirdLife Norway and the Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi partner visit in February 2017. Areas visited were Ntchisi, Kasungu national park and Dzalanyama.

Nepal

BirdLife Norway and Bird Conservation Nepal partner visit in 2018. Areas visited were Rara national park, Ghodaghodi lake and Bardia NP.

Tibet
Thailand

Being a field supervisor for Tibetan ornithology students I was able to visit the Tibetan plateu both in 2004 and 2008.

My first blogging project! Three weeks in Thailand in November 1999 - visiting great birding sites such as Khao Yai, Krabi, Doi Inthanon and Hua Hin.
