Birds and communities in Malawi
I spent a couple of weeks in Malawi in February 2017. The visit was part of my role as project manager for BirdLife Norway in a cooperation with The Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi (WESM). The trip formed part of BirdLife Norway’s long‑term, Norad‑supported partnership with WESM, established in 2012 to strengthen the protection of Malawi’s most important bird areas. The project combined nature conservation with community development by supporting sustainable resource use in and around areas like Dzalanyama, Ntchisi, and Kasungu. During my stay, I was able to follow the work on the ground and meet the communities who were central partners in these conservation efforts.
