A female Ring-necked Duck was found in a suburban lake in Bergen, Western Norway today. This was only the 4th. record in Hordaland, and the 1st. female. When cold spells occur, ducks and other waterbirds gather in available openings in lakes. Such openings may at times be scarce, and the number of waterbirds gathering may be high. At the time when the Ring-necked Duck was found, the opening was about to disappear. During the following night, the temperatures were 5-10 degrees celsius, and the opening more or less vanished. As did the rare duck. It has not been seen since.
