RARE BIRDS

Last night, a Little Egret was reported from Buena, a small wetland area not far from our summer house where I’m staying at the moment. I checked the site later that same evening, but did not see the bird. This morning it showed up again, and these pictures were taken when the first rays of sunlight hit the bird at about 7 a.m.

This bird represents the tenth record for Hordaland, and the first for Bjørnafjorden municipality.

The bird shows a poorly developed breeding plumage, with soft-parts that appear washed‑out and lacking the intense colours typical of breeding adults. These features suggest that it is a second‑calendar‑year bird.
