Humei at Fedje!

A county second, and the 9th. for Norway.

RARE BIRDS

A Hume's Warbler was present at Fedje in Hordaland county on the 18th. and 19th. of October 2001. This was the second record of the species in the county, and only number nine in Norway.

Late afternoon light made the pictures slightly warm. But note the greater coverts; the ground color is slate grey, giving the wing less contrasting appearance than in the similar Yellow-browed Warblers Phylloscopus inornatus. Do also note the greyish head, contrasting to the somewhat greener back. The bird was aggressive and territorial. It chased away a.o. Chiffchaffs approaching its feeding tree. The sound of this individual was actually quite Chiffchaff-like, somewhat more high-pitched.
