This colorful beauty showed up at the island of Fedje in Hordaland county (western Norway) 2 June 2002. It rested on a telephone wire for a minute or so, before totally wanishing from the island. Despite extensive search for the bird the next hours, we could not relocate it.
There were only two previous records of European Bee-eater in Hordaland county, both from the eighties. There are about 45 Norwegian records (involving more than 80 individuals).
